We Scribblin’ helps develop strong and thoughtful writers and writing teachers.
We do this through facilitating supportive, approachable, and joyful writing experiences and professional development that build community and strengthen writing skills.
We Scribblin’ sees a world in which young people have the skills they need to write their way across doors of opportunity. Nancy Prothoroe described writing as a “threshold” skill. College and scholarship essays, cover letters, and grants all require applicants to compose cogent and compelling pieces of writing before being granted access to a resource.
This is why We Scribblin’ centers our work around writing instruction. We Scribblin’ is skilled in all areas of literacy education, as they are connected and should be taught together. However, writing needs greater attention and celebration. So yes, we readin' and we spellin' too, but our emphasis is on writing.
“Reading gives you access, but writing gives you power.”
-Dr. Kyley Pulphus-Smith, July 2016
We Scribblin’s Founder, Dr. Kyley Pulphus-Smith, said this powerful quote in an interview in 2016. Though reading and writing are related processes, their purposes are distinct. Readers are consumers. Writers are creators. Check out Dr. Kyley’s thread that explains what she means.
The Institute of Education Sciences says beginning in 1st grade, students should receive 60 minutes of writing instruction daily. How many minutes are your students getting?
Our Values
-

We build together, celebrate, and check on each other. The work can wait if one of us is not okay.

We are intentional in stretching ourselves to be better writers, writing teachers, and humans.
-
Sharing
We show the world what we are capable of.
-

Pro-Human Spaces
We vehemently oppose racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ageism and ableism. Any other -isms and -obias that oppress a group of people, we not with those, either.
